The Problem Was Right in Front of Us

For eight years working behind the counter of a hardware store tinting paint, the same frustrating scene played out over and over. A homeowner walks in clutching a chipped piece of skirting board, a photo on their phone, or sometimes just a vague memory of "that greeny-blue we used in the bedroom." A tradie calls asking if we kept records of what they bought two years ago for a rental in Ringwood.

And then there were the tenants. Renters coming in constantly needing to repair scuff marks, holes, and general wear and tear before moving out. No idea what colour the walls were painted. No record anywhere. Just a sample pot of something they hoped was close enough, and a prayer it would match.

The answer was almost always the same: we don't know. Nobody tracked it. Nobody kept records. And bad colour matches are genuinely painful for everyone involved. Wasted time, wasted money, wasted paint, and a very unhappy property manager.

We looked for a platform where painters and homeowners could log their paint colours by property address so anyone could look it up later. It didn't exist. So we built it.

iPaintD is a searchable database of paint colour profiles. Create a profile for any property, enter the address, record the interior and exterior colours used (brand, colour name, range, sheen level), and it's saved. Searchable by anyone, any time, from any device.

Searching is always free. Creating profiles requires a plan, but we keep them affordable because we genuinely want this to be useful to as many people as possible.
